Armed Bank Robbery at Union Bank in Balasore Dist; Rs 30/40 Lakh & Gold Jewellery Looted

Balasore: An armed bank robbery occurred at a Union Bank branch at Chandaneswar in Balasore district on Wednesday afternoon. The gun-wielding robbers are alleged to have looted Rs 30 to Rs 40 lakh in cash and gold jewellery from the bank. Eyewitnesses say the armed dacoits escaped towards the West Bengal border after the loot.

It is said that around 7 to 8 miscreants were involved in this major bank dacoity. The robbery occurred at around 1:20 pm. The looters entered the bank premises posing as customers.

At gunpoint, the robbers locked up the bank staff in the locker room and then looted the cash and gold ornaments on the premises. Receiving information, police rushed to the spot. The locked-up bank staff were rescued from the locker room. Police personnel have started an investigation and a massive search operation has been launched to nab the bank robbers.
