Attack on Chinese Nationals Foiled in Pakistan; Suicide Bomber Killed

Security forces foiled a preplanned suicide attack attempt targeting some Chinese nationals working in a shipyard in the port city of Pakistan’s Karachi on Wednesday.

Pak security officials tracked down a suspected suicide bomber at the shipyard in Karachi’s Port Qasim. The terrorist was shot dead. Following it, security for foreign workers was increased. On Tuesday, there was an intelligence tipoff that a banned outfit had planned a suicide attack at the port.

Pakistan police recovered a suicide vest jacket, explosives, a detonator, and a Kalashnikov rifle with ammunition from the slain terrorist. The terrorist also fired and one policeman was injured.

In April 2022, a female suicide bomber carried out a suicide attack on a van carrying three Chinese teachers at Karachi University. Hundreds of Chinese workers work in Pakistan as part of the ambitious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that connects Gwadar Port in Pakistan’s Balochistan with China’s Xinjiang province.
