Batla House Encounter Convict Terrorist Dies at Delhi AIIMS  

New Delhi: Convicted Indian Mujahideen terrorist Shahzad Ahmad died during treatment at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital on Saturday. He was convicted for his role in the Batla House case.

This terrorist was proven to have killed inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. He was also found guilty of attempting to murder head constables Balwant Singh and Rajbir Singh, by firing at them.

In 2013, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a court. A fine of Rs 95,000 was also imposed on Ahmad.

The Delhi Police had urged the court to award the death penalty to Ahmad. He was involved in the September 13, 2008 blasts in Delhi that claimed the lives of 26 people and injured at least 133.

Batla House encounter took place when the police team raided the place to nab Ahmad and others in connection with the 2008 Delhi blasts. Out of the five persons in the house, Atif Ameen and Mohd Said were killed in the encounter. Inspector Sharma was injured by the bullets of the terrorists. He succumbed to injuries.

Sharma was honoured with the gallantry award Ashok Chakra posthumously.
