BCCI President Roger Binny Slams Shahid Afridi Over Favouritism Comment

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Roger Binny slammed former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for his bizarre comments alleging the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) bias towards India in ICC tournaments.

After the India-Bangladesh encounter at Adelaide, which India won, a journalist from Pakistan alleged that India gets undue favours from the ICC. Although not directly, Afridi endorsed this comment.

“You saw how wet the ground was. But ICC gives special favours to India. They make sure India reaches the semi-finals at any cost. The umpires were also the same who officiated India vs Pakistan & they will end up getting the best umpire awards for supporting India,” Afridi ranted on a TV show.

“The game resumed immediately despite the amount of rain that happned. It is evident that many things were involved, the ICC, India playing (the game), the pressure that comes with it, there are many factors involved. But Litton’s batting was amazing. He played positive cricket. Bangladesh looked all set for a victory after the end of the powerplay. Overall, the fight shown by Bangladesh was brilliant,” Afridi further added.

Responding to the bizzare allegations made by Afridi, Binny denied receiving favours of any kind from the cricket’s governing body. He further reiterated that everyone gets similar treatment from ICC irrespective of the numbers (revenue) their market generates.

“Not fair. I don’t think we’re favoured by ICC. Everyone gets same treatment. No way in which you can say that. What do we get different from other teams? India is a big powerhouse in cricket but we’re all treated the same,” Binny told a news agency.

Apparently, India’s win over Bangladesh has put Pakistan in a tricky spot in Group 2, diminishing their semi-final hopes.
