BJD’s Dipali Das Wins Jharsuguda Bypoll; Breaks Record of Naba Das’ Win Margin

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling BJD won the Jharsuguda assembly seat bypoll by a margin over 48,000 votes.

The BJD candidate, Dipali Das, won the byelection by a strong margin of 48619 votes. She defeated her nearest BJP rival Tankadhar Tripathy.

The most remarkable fact is that she broke the record of the vote margin of her slain father Naba Das. Her father had won by a margin of 45699 votes in 2019 Assembly elections from Jharsuguda. This byelection had to be conducted because of the murder of Naba Das by a police ASI.

Dipali received a total of 107603 votes. Tankadhar of BJP got 58384 votes. The Congress candidate Tarun Pandey got only 4473 votes. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to make any official announcement about the total number of votes.
