JDS Dream to Become King Maker Shattered in Karnataka as Congress Heads Towards Majority

Bengaluru: The trends of counting of votes for the Karnataka assembly election hint that the Congress is expected to cross the majority mark of 113 as the party was leading in 124 seats.

If this trend continues then the Congress will be able to form the government in Karnataka on its own. It won’t require the support of the JD(S). A party or an alliance needs to attain the magic number of 113 to form a government in Karnataka.

Five independents were leading, and the Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha were ahead in one seat each, the trends say.

The BJP and the JD(S) are ahead in 69 and 24 constituencies, respectively, according to the EC trends.

Counting began at 36 polling centres across the state at 8 am.

Karnataka went to polls on May 10 to elect 224 members of its Legislative Assembly.
