Karnataka Woman Throws Divyang Son Into Croc-Infested River Following Marital Quarrel

Bengaluru: Following a quarrel with her husband, a 26-year-old woman allegedly threw her six-year-old divyang son into a crocodile-infested river at Dandeli taluk in the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka.

The couple has another two-year-old son. But they used to quarrel regularly over their elder son, who was mute from birth.

Ravi Kumar (27), the husband of the woman named Savitri allegedly always blamed his wife regarding the birth of this mute child. According to reports, he used to allegedly tell her to “throw the child away”, said the police sources.

According to the police, following a fight over the same matter on Saturday evening, Savitri allegedly threw her divyang elder into a waste canal directly linked to the Kali river which is infested with crocodiles.

The neighbours called up the police. With the help of locals and divers, police retrieved the body of the child from the river. The injuries, bite marks as well as a missing hand hinted that the child was a victim of a crocodile attack.

The body was sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Police have arrested the couple and booked them under section 109 (Abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
