Chicken Tikka Masala Inventor Chef Ali Ahmed Aslam Passes Awat At 77

Glasgow (Scotland): The inventor of ‘Chicken Tikka Masala’, Chef Ali Ahmed Aslam passed away at the age of 77 years.

His demise was announced by his Shish Mahal restaurant in Glasgow. The restaurant announced, “Hey, Shish Snobs … Mr Ali passed away this morning … We are all absolutely devastated and heartbroken.”

He invented ‘Chicken Tikka Masala’ by improvising a sauce made from a tin of tomato soup at his restaurant Shish Mahal in the 1970s.

While talking to AFP, Ahmed’s nephew said, “He would eat lunch in his restaurant every day. The restaurant was his life. The chefs would make curry for him. I am not sure if he often ate chicken tikka masala.”

Ali, originally a native of Punjab province in Pakistan, moved to Glasgow with his family before opening Shish Mahal in Glasgow’s west end in 1964.

Ali died leaving behind his wife three sons and two daughters.
