Cracks Seen on Badrinath Highway ahead of Char Dham Yatra

Chamoli (Uttarakhand): Fresh cracks had been seen on the Badrinath Highway near Joshimath between JP and Marwari of Uttarakhand. Over 10 large cracks were reported in the area.

The highway connects to the Badrinath Dham, which is one of the most-visited pilgrimage spots in the Garhwal Himalayas.

The DM of Chamoli, Himanshu Khurana informed that cracks have appeared in a 10km stretch between Joshimath and Marwari.

“Instructions have been given to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to test the cracks and take protective measures,” DM Khurana said.

“People complained about cracks in some houses. A team of engineers posted in Joshimath have been sent to test the cracks on the houses so that the actual situation can be known,” he added.

On the contrary, online registration of pilgrims for the Char Dham Yatra has started today. The portal of the tourism department opened at seven in the morning. Pilgrims will be able to register for Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham till the formal announcement of the opening date of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham.
