Crime Branch to Probe Balangir Fake Certificate Racket: Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has handed over the Balangir fake certificate racket probe to the Crime Branch.

According to official sources, a dedicated team of the Crime Branch is likely to visit Bolangir today to inquire into the case. The team will also carry out investigations in other parts of the country if needed.

So far, over 20 people were arrested in connection with a fake certificate racket in Odisha’s Balangir district.

According to reports, the cops seized over Rs 3.5 lakh from the possessions of the accused. The police also seized certificates of 40 reputed colleges and universities, computers, xerox machines, printers, and fake stamps.

Earlier, Bolangir police busted a fake certificate racket at a coaching center.

On receiving hints about the racket, the district Police raided the coaching center located near Bolangir College and seized several mark sheets, certificates, verification reports, seals, and a diary.

“A special team was formed on the instructions of Bolangir SP after the postal department officials approached us after suspecting the authenticity of certificates produced by 37 job aspirants,” said SDPO Tofan Bag.

“Based on a tip-off, we conducted an inspection at the coaching center and seized several blank certificates, stamps, and seals. A diary has also been seized which contains the names of people who paid for the certificates and others who got jobs as well,” he added.
