Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee Renowned Filmmaker K Viswanath Dies at 92

Hyderabad: Dadasaheb Phalke award winner and veteran filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad at the age of 92.

According to sources, he was suffering from age-related ailments. He passed away at the hospital around midnight Thursday.

Viswanath, popularly known as ‘Kalatapasvi’, was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh. He was a prominent name in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. He was the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2016.

Viswanath started his cine career as a sound artist. He has directed award-winning classic films such as “Sankarabharanam”, “Sagara Sangamam”, “Swati Mutyam”, “Saptapadi”, “Kaamchor”, “Sanjog” and “Jaag Utha Insaan”. He was equally successful in front of the camera.

He was honored with Padma Shri in 1992. He has also won five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards of the Andhra Pradesh government, and 10 Filmfare trophies including the Lifetime Achievement award.
