Dead Leopard Found in Gurugram; Toxic Water Suspected to have Caused Death

New Delhi: Carcass of a leopard was found at a landfill in Gurugram on Friday. The dead body is suspected to be 15 days old. Forest officials seized the leopard carcass for autopsy to ascertain the reason for its death.

Prima facie evidence hints that the wild cat was not a victim of hunting or poaching. The environmentalists however suspected toxic water at the landfill may have caused the death of the leopard. They demanded an examination of the water hole at the landfill by pollution authorities.

According to these environmental activists, this landfill has polluted land and water in the area. The water hole near the landfill is frequented by leopards and other animals. It has now turned black owing to some kind of toxicity. “We want the pollution control board to check the water hole and save other animals,” said environmentalist Vaishali Rana Chandra in her interview with the Tribune.
