Death Sentence For Watching S-Korean Web Series

Two high school students were executed in North Korea for watching and distributing South Korean drama shows. Viewing and distributing K-dramas produced in South Korea is a grave crime in North Korea.

According to Radio Free Asia, the two teenagers were awarded death sentence by the Kim Jong Un regime for viewing and promoting South Korean dramas.

As per reports, these two ill-fated boys had become friends at a high school in Ryanggang Province in North Korea. This area borders China. It was proved that both of them had watched several South Korean and American drama shows during October.

The North Korean authorities dragged the teenagers in front of the public and they were sentenced to death. They were immediately taken to an airfield to be shot dead. Residents in the area were compelled to watch the killing.

In 2020, North Korea banned all types of foreign information and influence in the country. But South Korean shows and music still attracts North Korea’s citizens. Recordings of South Korean shows are smuggled on memory cards and are watched secretly in North Korea due to fear of stringent government action.
