Doctor Assaulted by patient’s Kin in Balasore

Balasore: Following the death of a patient, his relatives attacked a doctor at Gopikishan Bhattar Community Health Centre (CHC) of Odisha’s Balasore on Tuesday. The assailants alleged that the doctor had shown negligence during the treatment of the patient.

The deceased patient was Akshay Jena, a resident of the Nampo area of Jaleswar. He was brought to Gopikishan Bhattar CHC in the morning. But he died during treatment.

On getting information about his death, his relatives and some locals reached the CHC and blamed the hospital staff including the doctor on duty, Sanjay Panda for the death of the patient.

After some argument, the angry mob assaulted the doctor. But the doctor managed to escape from the spot as the other staff of the hospital provided him protection.

The mob also sat on dharna inside the CHC demanding strong action against the doctor for his alleged negligence in treatment. Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

In a similar happening, relatives of a man injured in a road accident had assaulted a doctor at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput on Sunday when the victim died in the hospital during treatment.
