Emergencies Surgeries Even on Holidays in Odisha’s Govt Hospitals

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has directed all government hospitals in the state with OT facilities to facilitate emergency surgeries on holidays including Sundays.

According to sources, the CDMOs of all 30 districts have received directives regarding this. The CDMOs will have to take immediate measures so that the OTs of medical centers with one or more specialists or surgeons remain open round the clock on all days of the week to handle emergency surgery cases.

Recently state Health Minister Naba Das expressed concern over the closure of OTs on the second, and fourth Saturdays as well as on all Sundays. Due to it, poor patients are not able to avail benefits under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. In case of emergency, they have to opt for emergency operations in private hospitals, thereby putting pressure on the state exchequer.
