Fisherman Drowns As Boat Capsizes In Malkangiri’s Chitrakonda Dam

Malkangiri: A fisherman drowned on Wednesday evening after a fishing boat capsized following rain and strong winds in Chitrakonda dam in Malkangiri district.

According to reports, the incident took place while three people identified as Krupa, Hari and Kailash, of Dyke-3 village had gone fishing in the dam and were returning from Singaram area when the boat capsized due to sudden rain and winds.

Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak managed to swim back ashore after the boat capsized. However, Krupa Benia had gone missing after the incident.

On their return, Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak informed the villagers about the incident and they immediately launched a rescue operation. Though they could not trace  Krupa, the rescue operation had to be abandoned due to darkness.

The rescue operation was resumed on Thursday morning.

On being informed, a team of Fire Services personnel also joined them this morning.
