New Delhi: Investigating a case of spying, the CBI arrested a freelance journalist and a former Navy commander. Both arrested persons had allegedly illegally collected sensitive defence information and handed them over to foreign intelligence agencies.

Following an FIR against freelance journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi, the CBI on Tuesday conducted searches on premises linked to him. He is the India correspondent of a US-based portal on defence and strategic affairs. The CBI personnel raided people close to him at 12 places in Jaipur and National Capital Region (NCR). Several sensitive documents were recovered during the searches.

The agency has booked Raghuvanshi and former Navy commander Ashish Pathak under Section 3 (spying) of the Official Secrets Act and Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
