Fresh Tremors of 4.7 Magnitude Shakes Turkey; Death Toll Rises above 34000

Another earthquake of 4.7 magnitude hit Turkey on Sunday. Even a week after the devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook Turkey and Syria, tremors are being felt in the region at regular intervals.

The epicenter of the most recent earthquake in Turkey was near the southern city of Kahramanmaras, one of the worst-hit cities in the recent earthquake.

“A magnitude 4.7, 24 km SSE of Kahramanmaras, Turkey. Time 00:03 hrs; Location: 37.390°N 37.048°E; Depth: 15.7,” United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

On Sunday, some more survivors were rescued from the debris. They had survived even after remaining under the debris for one week. As the likelihood of discovering more survivors decreases, the number of casualties from earthquake in Turkey and Syria went over 34,000. It is likely to increase further. This earthquake is now the deadliest to hit Turkey since 1939.
