‘Gomutra’ Used by Congress Workers to Purify Karnataka Assembly

Bengaluru: Congress workers on Monday “purified” the Vidhan Soudha or Karnataka assembly with ‘Gomutra’ (cow urine). They claimed that Vidhan Soudha had to be ritualistically cleansed as “corrupt BJP rule” had ended with Congress’ landslide victory and Siddaramaiah taking oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka.

In January this year, Congress Karnataka president DK Shivakumar, who took charge as the deputy chief minister, had said that it was time to “cleanse” the Vidhana Soudha (assembly) with cow urine.

“We will come up with some details to clean the Vidhan Soudha. I also have some ganjala (cow urine) for purification…,” Shivakumar had said. Congress alleged that the assembly had been “polluted by corruption during the BJP’s rule”.

Before the polling day in Karnataka, Congress came up with a bilingual ‘corruption rate card’ in English and Kannada with the allegation that the ruling BJP government had amassed Rs 1,50,000 crore while in  power in the state. Congress mentioned that the cost of the CM was Rs 2,500 crore and a ministerial post was worth Rs 500 crore.

Congress alleged that the BJP government in the state had collected 30 per cent commission for the mutt grants, 40 per cent for road contracts and up to 75 per cent for the Covid-19 supplies.
