Hindu Sena Files PIL Against ‘Adipurush’ in Delhi High Court

New Delhi: Hindu Sena, a right-wing group on Friday filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court, seeking directions for the removal or correction of alleged objectionable scenes from the movie ‘Adipurush’.

Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta filed this PIL, also challenging the censor board certificate granted to the film. The director and producers of the movie have been named as respondents in the PIL.

The petitioner claimed that ‘Adipurush “offends the sentiments” of the Hindu community by presenting the religious characters like Sri Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman, and Ravan in “an inaccurate and inappropriate manner” in contradiction to descriptions in Ramayana by Maharishi Valmiki and Tulsidas.

He objected to the bearded look of Ravana enacted by Saif Ali Khan in the film and Sri Ram with a mustache. According to the petitioner, any variation of the traditional images of characters in the movie would certainly hurt the sentiments of worshipers, devotees, and religious believers.

‘Adipurush’ by Om Raut stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan in the leading roles of Ram, Sita, and Ravan.
