Home Min Amit Shah Calls Up All Party Meeting to Discuss Manipur Situation

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair an all-party meeting in New Delhi on Saturday to discuss the situation in ethnic violence hit Manipur.

Violence continues in this North Eastern State for over one and a half months. A few weeks back, Shah visited Manipur to initiate peace in the State. He had said any kind of violation of the Agreement of Suspension of Operation would be strictly dealt with and treated as a breach of the Agreement. He also urged all to surrender their weapons to the police.

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence for over a month, resulting in the loss of more than 100 lives. The clashes originated on May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts of Manipur to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
