Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Bus Owners’ Association has given a call for a statewide bus strike from January 17.
According to the association, they have given this strike call to protest against the Vehicle Scrappage Policy declared by the state government. The private bus owners alleged that despite repeated requests, the Odisha government was not looking into their demands. Last month they held a demonstration in front of the office of the State Transport Authority demanding the fulfillment of a list of eight demands.
On January 7, the state transport department secretary held a meeting with bus owners regarding their demands. But the meeting did not bring in any results.
So, to press upon the government the association of private bus owners has announced an indefinite bus strike from January 17. Several district bus owners’ associations like the Cuttack Private Bus Owners’ Association have extended support to the strike call.
