Jayalalitha Aide & 3 Time Rajya Sabha MP Maitreyan of AIADMK Joins BJP

New Delhi: A key associate of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and three-time Rajya Sabha MP in the past, V Maitreyan of AIADMK, joined the BJP on Friday. He is reported to have returned to the saffron party after 23 years.

“As in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the lotus will bloom in Tamil Nadu both in the General Elections and in state elections in 2026,” Maitreyan said after joining the BJP.

BJP general secretaries Arun Singh and CT Ravi who oversaw the joining said Maitreyan’s return to the BJP would boost party prospects in Tamil Nadu and is a hint of growing acceptance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership and BJP’s ideology.

In Tamil Nadu, BJP has four MLAs in the state assembly. The saffron party has not won in any of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
