Kanwariya Drowns in Baitarani River in Jajpur District

Jajpur: A Kanwariya reportedly drowned in the Baitarani river near the Ballabhi ghat in Jajpur district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Prasant Samal of Purshottampur under the Bhandaripokhari block of Jajpur district.

As per reports, Prasanta was at the Ballabhi ghat on the banks of the Baitarani river to collect water to pour it at a Shiva temple on the second Monday of the Shravan month.

Another Kanwariya accompanying Prasant jumped into the river to save him. But he was saved by the locals.

Local police have recovered the body of the deceased Kanwariya for post-mortem. They have also started an investigation into the incident.
