Labour Participation on Rise in Odisha, But Mostly Employed in Agriculture & Construction

Bhubaneswar: The Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) and the female LFPR are on the rise in the state. Odisha’s LFPR (for individuals aged 15 and above) has climbed from 51.2 per cent in 2018-19 to 61.3 per cent in 2022-23, according to the Economic Survey tabled in the state Assembly on the eve of the 2024-25 budget.

As per the report, the female labour force participation rate for the same age group has increased from 24.4 per cent in 2018-19 to 44.7 per cent in 2022-23.

Despite these gains, the majority of employment remains concentrated in the agricultural and construction sectors. The state’s focus is on creating more high-quality jobs with improved wage structures.
