Meghalaya Assembly Elections Campaigning Reaches its Peak

Shillong: In Meghalaya, electioneering has reached its peak, as top leaders of various political parties descended on to the state, with only a few days left for campaigning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be taking part in electioneering in the state tomorrow.

Meanwhile, National People’s Party (NPP) Chief Conrad K. Sangma said the NPP-led government has managed to change the perception of Garo Hills among the people, both in the State and outside. He claimed that NPP led government brought development to the region. He addressed an election rally at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills last evening.

Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally at Malki in Shillong where he alleged that BJP and Trinamool Congress  (TMC) have an unholy nexus. He also said that TMC is trying to make inroads into Meghalaya only to strengthen the BJP.

TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee held an election meeting at Nekikona Tilapara field near new Baithbari to garner support for her party candidates. She said various development initiatives taken by the TMC government in West Bengal, will be replicated in Meghalaya if TMC is voted to power. She further claimed that the TMC is the only alternative to bring Meghalaya on track.

The Voice of the People Party (VPP), held an election meeting at Nongstoin last evening to garner support for its candidate Bobby Kharshandi. Party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said the state has become one of the poorest states in the North Eastern Region and attributed corruption as the main reason for this downfall. The VPP leaders and supporters also took out a rally from Post Office to the Nongstoin market.
