Music Copyright Infringement; Twitter Sued for $250 Million

America’s National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) has sued Twitter for $250 million (Rs 2055 crore) over a massive copyright infringement.

Seventeen music publishers came together to file this copyright infringement lawsuit in the federal court in the state of Tennessee. They are seeking damages and injunctive relief for Twitter’s “wilful copyright infringement”.

The NMPA alleged that Twitter was enabling thousands of copyright violations by allowing users to post music without a license.

Members of the NMPA include Sony Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management and Universal Music Publishing Group. They have alleged infringement of nearly 1,700 music copyrights.

The lawsuit claimed that copyright infringement has increased since Elon Musk bought Twitter in October.
