Odisha Train Tragedy: DNA Sampling Begins, Over 100 Bodies Remain Unidentified

Bhubaneswar: As several of the dead in the Bahanaga train tragedy continue to remain unidentified, the state government officials began DNA sampling to identify the bodies.

DNA sampling would help in the identification of bodies which would turn out to be a big relief for the families searching for their loved ones and running from pillar to post with photographs and other details.

According to the state government officials, as many as 101 bodies are yet to be identified and the body will be handed over to the relatives in doubtful cases only if the DNA matches.

Reportedly, this comes after a woman’s futile and fraudulent attempt of claiming one of the bodies as her husband on Sunday. This prompted the state government to sound an alarm. A woman from the Badamba area in Cuttack district claimed a body. Later, the officials contacted the police in Badamba, they found out that no one from the area was travelling in any of the ill-fated trains.
