Odisha Tribal Woman Allegedly Sells Newborn to man from Vizag for Rs 1 Lakh  

Bhubaneswar: A tribal woman of Jagatsinghpur district allegedly sold her one-day-old newborn boy to a person from Vizag of Andhra Pradesh for Rs 1 lakh.

According to reports, a tribal slum dweller woman named Mamina Sarda of Sankhud slum gave birth to a boy at Atharabanki government hospital on Sunday. It is alleged that after a day she sold the newborn to a Telugu-speaking man from Visakhapatnam.

This pathetic incident came to the fore when a woman named Manga alleged that Mamina had first promised to sell the baby to her but did not keep her promise by selling the newborn to the Telugu-speaking man.

Mamina wanted to abort her pregnancy. However, Manga, a Telugu-speaking woman, advised her not to abort the baby with the promise that she would take the baby after delivery. She even promised to provide some financial assistance to Mamina’s elder daughter in return. Manga is said to have looked after Mamina during her pregnancy.

As per reports, Manga alleges that Mamina sold her baby boy to another person without informing her.

Manga and Mamina quarrelled over the matter. Mamina is said to have absconded after the matter came to the fore.

As per reports, local police have formed a special team to investigate the matter. The Jagatsinghpur Child Welfare Committee has also decided to investigate and take action in the case.
