Police Chief of Violence Hit Manipur Replaced by Center

New Delhi: In a major reshuffle to return back peace in the ethnic violence hit Manipur, the Central government on Thursday appointed Rajiv Singh, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Manipur. The current DGP of Manipur, P Doungel, has been transferred to the Home Department.

Rajiv Singh, was earlier Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was sent on an inter-cadre deputation to Manipur from the Centre on May 29.

His posting as Manipur DGP is an attempt by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to balance local dynamics by bringing in a non-tribal, non-Meitei police chief.
