Seed Banks to Open in 5,000 Villages of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Seed banks will be soon open in five thousand villages of the state. The state government has approved to spend Rs. 150 Crore.

Better varieties of seeds will be used instead of traditional methods. The state government aims to bring about comprehensive reforms in the agricultural sector by the year 2030.

The initiative is taken for the implementation, awareness, and infrastructure of the new method to get better quality seeds.

According to the climate change action plan, the farmers will be made aware of the effects of climate change and the necessary measures to deal with it. Farmers will cultivate improved varieties of crops that can withstand natural calamities. Such climate-tolerant seeds will be cultivated on 2 lakh hectares of farmland.

Natural calamities such as droughts, floods, storms, lack of rain, and one-day rains are seen in the state. Due to this, the crops of the farmers are destroyed and they are suffering unbearably. In order to minimize the loss during natural calamities, the state government is going to take new steps in this direction.
