Shashi Tharoor Will Not Contest CWC Election

New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is not interested to contest in the election for Congress Working Committee (CWC). He has reiterated it twice in two days.

On Friday Tharoor repeated his decision not to contest the Congress Working Committee (CWC) election.

On Wednesday, Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram in Lok Sabha had ruled out contesting the Congress Working Committee election, if held.

“I have already said that I am not interested in an election again and hence contesting if an election to the CWC is held is ruled out,” Tharoor told the media during the inauguration ceremony of a function.  Regarding the possibility of him getting nominated to the CWC, he said, “I am not expecting anything.”

Later this month, the Congress will hold a plenary session in Jaipur. In this plenary session, a new team of AICC office-bearers led by party president Malikarjuna Kharge will take charge.

When asked, if an election to the CWC is needed, Tharoor answered, “There have always been two opinions on this issue and the (Congress) constitution is also clear on it.” According to him, the upcoming assembly elections in several states are more important.

Tharoor lost to Kharge in the election for the post of Congress president. But his image has got enhanced outside the party leadership and in Kerala he is one of the most popular leaders.
