The story before and after partition of India and Pakistan. Lakhs Lost lives!

The sting of the partition before India’s independence in 1947 still haunts the third generation. After partition, about a hundred displaced families who had somehow escaped to save their lives had settled in Bahraich. Leaving home business, somehow started the struggle for a new life. Everyone shudders to remember that time.

August 14 is celebrated as Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day. Describing the pain of partition, the late self came after being displaced in 1947 from Havelian town under Hazaran district of present-day Pakistan. Amrik Lal Malhotra’s son Manish Malhotra told that his soul used to tremble when his father used to narrate the scene of partition. Cars reaching Attari full of Qatal-e-Aam and corpses! How he had accumulated his business, home, and farm, leaving everything empty-handed, saving the lives of his families, filling them in special trains, and then living in refugee camps and came to India in search of relatives.

Business leader Kulbhushan Arora, son of late Munshiram Arora, who came from Pakistan’s town Akalgarh district- Gujranwala in Partition, said that when the elders of the house narrated the story of partition, the tears could not stop. When the line of partition was drawn, millions of people became homeless overnight in their own country. The house of the grandfather of Rajesh Mancini, the second generation of the displaced family, was village Tirod taluka, Salehpat district, Sakkhar. Said, the day of 14 August 1947 in the form of Partition is an ever-freshening wound.

On this day the country was divided and the Indian sub-continent became fragmented to form Pakistan. Those responsible for Partition are not pardonable under any circumstances. Sushil Bhalla, a businessman of the displaced family from village Ukada Mandi district, Shadiwal, told that whenever their father used to narrate the tales of partition, blood boils. Father Late Omprakash Bhalla had told us that his father (our grandfather) was shot dead in Sahiwal, Pakistan when the partition riots started. Somehow the rest of the people were able to reach Attari after saving their lives.
