TikTok Completely Banned in Montana; First US State to Take Such Decision

Chinese-owned TikTok was completely banned in Montana state in America. On Wednesday Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed the legislation banning TikTok from operating in the state to protect residents from alleged intelligence gathering by China. Montana became the first US state to ban the popular short video app.

Montana will make it unlawful for Google and Apple’s app stores to offer TikTok within the state. If the app stores are found to host the social media application, a fine of $10,000 per day will be imposed. But there will be no penalties on individuals using the app.

TikTok has over 150 million American users.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) termed the ban on TikTok in Montana as “unconstitutional”.
