Tirtol BJD MLA in Trouble as Orissa HC Accepts Girlfriend’s Plea Against Him, Directs Police to Register Case

Bhubaneswar: Orissa High Court directed the Inspector-in-Charge of Jagatsinghpur police station to register a case against Tirtol’s BJD MLA Bijaya Shankar Das on the basis of a complaint lodged by his girlfriend Somalika Das.

Somalika had approached Orissa HC with the allegation that the police were not taking action against the Tirtol MLA despite her complaint against him. Alleging police inaction, Somalika had moved the High Court seeking registration of a case against the legislator.

After hearing her petition, Justice SK Panigrahi issued the directive to the IIC. The petitioner will submit a certified copy of the High Court’s order and a fresh complaint to the police official.

Somalika alleged that she had filed an FIR against the Tirtol MLA on May 13, 2022, but the police had not registered a case against the MLA. Meanwhile, following the Orissa High Court’s order, Somalika approached the Jagatsinghpur IIC with a written complaint, which was accepted by the IIC with the assurance of proper action.

Somalika claims to be the girlfriend of the Tirtol MLA. According to her, the legislator has cheated him by not turning up for marriage at a court in Jagatsinghpur. Both had applied for marriage registration at the office of the sub-registrar in the Jagatsinghpur district.

She has also accused the MLA of running a sex racket. She alleged that the MLA engaged innocent girls in illegal activity. The money collected through the sex racket was used by the MLA for election-related expenses, she alleged.
