Two Anti-Hijab Protestors hanged in Iran

Two anti-hijab protestors were executed in Iran on Saturday. Iranian court convicted these two men of killing a security personnel during an anti-hijab protest that began in Iran after the custodial death of a young woman.

In December two other men had been put to death in Iran on similar charges.

Informing about the executions held today, the judicial news service of Iran Mizan Online said, “Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, the main perpetrators of the crime that led to the martyrdom of Ruhollah Ajamian, were hanged this morning,”

Both these men had received the death sentences in early December. Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentences on Tuesday.

Thousands of people involved in anti-hijab protests have been arrested in Iran since September 2022. These demonstrations were sparked off by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman who had been arrested by morality police for allegedly breaching the strict dress code for women.

As per media reports, til now 14 persons involved in these protests have been sentenced to death. Out of them, four have been executed.
