Two Transgender Doctors Join Govt Hospital in Telangana

Hyderabad: Two transgender doctors, Dr Prachi Rathod and Dr Ritu Jain have joined the government-managed Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Telangana as medical officers.

Both of them have struggled much in life because of their gender status. Overcoming challenges in their personal life, they could complete courses in medicine. Now they have become the first transgender doctors to join government service in Telangana.

A super-specialty hospital in Hyderabad had removed Dr Rathod from the job only because of the gender.  She had worked there for three years. But suddenly the authorities of this private hospital alleged that Dr Rathod’s presence may affect their patient flow.

After leaving this job, Dr Rathod worked in a clinic run by an NGO and later secured a job in OGH.

Dr Rathod completed the MBBS course in 2015 from a medical college in Adilabad.
