Visakhapatnam Will be New Capital of Andhra Pradesh: CM Jagan Reddy

Visakhapatnam: Coastal city of Visakhapatnam will be Andhra Pradesh’s new capital. Andhra Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced it on Tuesday. With it, all speculations about Amaravati remaining capital of AP have ended.

“Here I am, to invite you, to Visakhapatnam, which is going to be our capital in the days to come,” he said while announcing an investment summit to be held there on March 3 and 4. “I myself will be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come,” Jagan added.

Visakhapatnam is being announced as the future capital city of Andhra around nine years after Telangana was carved out of it. Hyderabad became part of Telangana.  In 2015, the then CM of TDP N Chandrababu Naidu declared Amaravati as the new capital.

Then in 2020, Andhra Pradesh had planned to have three capital cities, Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool. This plan was later aborted and Amaravati formally remained the capital.

But Amaravati has been the center of an alleged land scam, for which Jagan Reddy’s party YSRCP has accused the previous chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu.
