Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Gets New CEO and General Manager

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has appointed Siba Prasad Samantaray as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) for a one-year term. Previously, Samantaray served as the Chief Project Director (Bridge Works) at East Coast Railway (ECoR).

Additionally, Prasanna Kumar Sarangi, the Special Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) has been appointed as the General Manager (Administration) of BMRC until further orders.

A significant milestone has been reached in the ambitious metro rail project with the commencement of a geotechnical investigation on the stretch between Nandankanan in the State Capital and Trisulia in the Cuttack district. This investigation began on July 8, 2023, and is currently underway.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is serving as the consultant for the project and is conducting surveys to prepare a Detailed Project Report. The first phase of the project will cover key locations such as the airport, railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Patia, Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar, and Trisulia in Cuttack.

The metro train service proposal was approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on April 1, 2023, on the occasion of Utkal Dibas. The second phase aims to extend the metro train service to Puri, connecting the pilgrim town with the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin cities.
