Bhubaneswar ‘Bouncer Gang’ Busted: 5 Involved In Forcible Land Acquisition, Extortion Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested five individuals associated with a self-proclaimed ‘bouncer gang’ notorious for issuing threats and assaulting individuals to acquire land forcibly in Bhubaneswar. The arrests, made by Chandrasekharpur Police, came in response to a complaint filed by Manas Behera, a construction company owner.

The arrested individuals are Padia Sahu, Rashmi Parida, Satyabrat Behera, and Samir Barik. The complaint revealed a dispute over land ownership between two construction companies, with one allegedly hiring the bouncer gang to oust Manas Behera and seize the property. The land in question is estimated to be worth Rs 10 crore, and the gang purportedly agreed to a Rs 50 lakh deal for their services.

Bhubaneswar’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prateek Singh, disclosed that the accused projected themselves as criminals with significant connections. Besides their involvement in land disputes, they were engaged in extortion, money lending, and other coercive activities, instilling fear that deterred people from reporting incidents.

Singh assured that seized money would be returned, and additional members of the gang would face arrest with strict consequences. The police investigation exposed the multifaceted criminal activities of the gang, emphasizing the need for comprehensive action against such elements.
