Odisha Veterinary Doctors Threaten Mass Leave Over Unmet Demands, Cite Neglect by Govt

Bhubaneswar: The Veterinary Doctors Association of Odisha (OVSA) has issued a stern ultimatum to the state government, threatening a mass leave if their key demands are not addressed by January 4, 2024. This comes amidst growing frustration over alleged government apathy towards the veterinary service sector, despite its crucial role in animal health and public health.

The association alleged that the State government has failed to address key concerns, including the transformation of the service sector, pay and career progression comparable to allopathic doctors, cadre restructuring, and the overall improvement of service delivery systems in the veterinary department.

Secretary of the Veterinary Service Association (OVSA), Shankarshan Mahunta, expressed concern over the apparent neglect of the veterinary service sector despite the government’s increased focus on the healthcare sector. Mahunta stated, “We will have to resort to mass leave if the government does not address our demands by January 4.”

The veterinarians had previously protested in February by wearing black badges to draw attention to the alleged apathetic attitude of the state government towards their longstanding demands. The association emphasized the urgent need for action and warned of a mass strike if their concerns are not met within the specified timeframe.
