Padampur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday officially declared former MLA Pradeep Purohit as its candidate for the Padampur byelection.
Earlier on Friday, Senior BJP leader Kusum Tete had informed the media about the former MLA’s potential candidature for the Padampur bypolls.
Purohit is all set to file his nomination for election to the Padampur assembly seat on November 14, she had informed.
Purohit won from Padampur in 2014 defeating Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha of the BJD. However, the tables turned in the 2019 elections as Bariha edged out Purohit by roughly 5,000 votes.
Due to the unfortunate demise of the incumbent MLA Bariha last month, a byelection is being held.
The Indian Election Commission has scheduled polling for Padampur byelection on December 5 and vote counting on December 8.
Meanwhile, the BJD and Congress are yet to announce their candidates for the Padampur byelection.
