Fake Naxals Arrested For Planting Bombs In Rayagada

Rayagada: Police on Saturday arrested six fake Maoists for planting bombs in different locations at a village in the district.

Police said they had planted bombs in Sunger village under Kasipur police station in Rayagada.

Three of the arrested persons belong to the Rayagada district while three others are residents of Kalahandi.

They allegedly attempted to extort money from a businessman named Tutu Gopal over the phone. They had threatened him to blow up his house and eliminate him if he doesn’t pay them Rs 5 lakh.

Later, they planted bombs around his house. Gopal informed Kasipur police regarding the fake naxals, Rayagada SP Vivekananda Sharma said.

Based on the complaint, a special team of police from Kasipur recovered the bombs with the help bomb disposal squad and scientific team.

Explosive items including gelatins, wire, electric detonators, digital watch and cylinder were diffused by Bomb Disposal Squad with due formalities, the SP informed.
