Dense Fog Likely in Several Odisha Districts, Drivers Urged to Exercise Caution

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar has forecasted dense fog in several districts of Odisha over the next 72 hours. With no significant synoptic system in the region, the IMD predicts the likelihood of dense fog at one or two places.

In the mid-day bulletin, the IMD reported a notable rise in minimum temperatures in South Interior Odisha, while other districts saw no significant changes. Temperatures were below normal at one or two places in Interior Odisha, markedly above normal in some places, and appreciably above normal in a few places over Coastal Odisha.

The temperature forecast indicates no major change in minimum (night) temperatures across Odisha in the next five days. However, temperatures are expected to be above normal by 2°C to 3°C in many places over the same period.

The highest maximum temperature of 31.0°C was recorded at Paralakhemundi, while the lowest minimum temperature of 10.8°C was observed at Boudh in the plains of Odisha.

The weather forecast and warning for the next two days in Odisha are as follows:

Thursday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 29.12.2023):
Dry weather is expected to prevail over Odisha, with shallow to moderate fog likely in specific districts. Yellow Warning has been issued for dense fog in selected areas.

Friday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.12.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.12.2023):
Dry weather will persist, and shallow to moderate fog is anticipated in certain districts. Yellow Warning is in place for dense fog at identified locations.

The districts under Yellow Warning include Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput.
