Odisha Bird Flu Alert: 5 Poultry Farm Workers Quarantined After Outbreak in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: Five poultry farmers in Derabish block of Odisha’s Kendrapada district have been quarantined after the death of chickens on their farms, officials said.

Health department officials on Tuesday collected samples of the farmers and directed them to be in home quarantine.

Nearly 2,000 chickens have died in Kendrapada due to an outbreak of avian flu and the carcasses have been buried in deep pits lined with lime.

The High Security Laboratory in Bhopal confirmed that 10 dead chickens from Andara and Balia panchayats tested positive for the H5N1 strain, district veterinary officials said.

To prevent further spread, authorities have vaccinated many poultry birds across the district and are encouraging farmers to vaccinate their flocks at nearby veterinary dispensaries.
