LoP Naveen Patnaik Demands Action on Puri Adapa Mandap Bije Mishap in Letter to CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik has called for immediate action following an unprecedented incident during the Adapa Mandap Bije ritual at Puri’s Jagannath Temple. In a letter to CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Patnaik emphasized the need for preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.

The incident, which saw Lord Balabhadra’s idol slip during a procession, has deeply affected devotees worldwide. Patnaik highlighted the global significance of the Rath Yatra, drawing millions of pilgrims and viewers annually.

Criticizing the government’s response, Patnaik pointed out that some ministers’ dismissive remarks have further upset devotees. He stressed the importance of Lord Jagannath as a symbol of Odia pride and identity.

The mishap, which occurred on July 9, resulted in injuries to several servitors. It has raised questions about safety protocols during sacred rituals. Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan’s comments describing the incident as “minor” or a “divine act” have added fuel to the controversy.
