Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Odisha, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days. This weather alert is in response to a low-pressure area expected to form in the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal.

September 12:
– Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy (>20 cm) expected in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Kandhamal.
– Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada.
– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is likely in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in various areas.
September 13:
– Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall expected in Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, and Ganjam.
– Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Sambalpur.
– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is likely in Koraput, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada.
The IMD has warned of potential flash floods, waterlogging in low-lying areas, agriculture field inundation, mudslides, landslides in hilly areas, and a rise in river water levels. There is also a risk of damage to roads and houses, waterlogging in underpasses, and reduced visibility causing traffic congestion. Farmers are advised to postpone agricultural activities, and livestock should be kept safe.
September 14:
– Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts.
– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall may occur in Malkangiri, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, and Puri.
September 15:
– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely in most of Interior Odisha and many coastal districts.
Beyond September 15, there are no heavy rain warnings. Stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions during this period.
