Nandankanan To Get Cheetahs, White Lions in International Exchange Program Next Month

Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Odisha’s capital is set to enhance its wildlife collection with the upcoming arrival of a pair of cheetahs and exotic white lions from a zoo in Dubai. This animal exchange program is scheduled for January next year, as confirmed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda.

In addition to the charismatic big cats, NZP will welcome new species of birds from abroad through the same program. Furthermore, plans are in place to introduce giraffes to Nandankanan, acquired through an animal exchange initiative with Alipore Zoological Garden in West Bengal, as disclosed by the PCCF.

Under the exchange arrangement, NZP will trade five Manipur brow-antlered deer for a male and a female cheetah. Additionally, the park will acquire a few African white lions in exchange for five blackbucks, with the source being Dubai Safari Park in the UAE.

These exciting additions aim to enrich the biodiversity of Nandankanan Zoological Park and provide visitors with an enhanced wildlife experience.
