Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar unveiled its revamped ropeway facility on Friday, marking the revival of the defunct ropeway. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat.
The ropeway, operated by Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited, guarantees safety and versatility, capable of running on both electricity and power generators. Priced at Rs 120 per ride, visitors can partake in this experience. Mahesh Mohata, the vice chairman of marketing, assured thorough inspections with daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual checks.
ACF Nandankanan, Sarat Sahu, highlighted the capacity of the facility, boasting 12 cabins accommodating 72 visitors simultaneously, with a maximum of 400 visitors per hour. With a record 38 lakh visitors last year and a current daily influx of 15,000 visitors, the zoo anticipates a surge in attendance due to the newly inaugurated ropeway.
Addressing concerns about safety, Sahu emphasized the meticulous inspection conducted by Odisha government engineers and the certification from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), including mock drills to ensure the security of visitors. The facility’s reopening is poised to enhance the overall visitor experience at Nandankanan Zoo.
