3 Police Officers Suspended for Ignoring Theft Complaints in Odisha’s Nayagarh

Nayagarh: Three police officials, including Sub-inspector Hasina Pradhan of Nayagarh Sadar Police Station, Assistant Sub-inspector Rajeswari Nayak, and constable Purnachandra Mohapatra, have been suspended by Nayagarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Jain on charges of dereliction of duty.

The suspensions come after allegations surfaced that the officers turned away complainants who approached the police station to report a series of thefts in Golagola village.

The victims, who reportedly lost valuables worth Rs 20 lakh, were allegedly instructed to return home and file FIRs the next day, causing a delay in the investigation process.

According to sources, the thefts occurred on Monday night within the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station.

Instead of registering the complaints and initiating an immediate investigation, the officers on duty reportedly dismissed the victims and asked them to return the following morning. This negligence in handling the situation has resulted in disciplinary action against the accused officials.
